Just before the sun rises.
A car pulls up to the boat ramp, the engine idling,
eyes resting on the dark water outside the window.
In the stillness, a fisherman reads the shape of the sea—

With a small nod, he turns back toward the shed.
The crew gathers.
Tide, wind, and the temper of the ocean are shared, quietly.
And so, the day begins—

This is a visual documentary photobook sharing the perspective of six months spent in the oyster-farming town of Smoky Bay during photographer Hiroya Hashimoto’s travels through South Australia.
Where the ocean and the people who live by it move in the same breath.
Where labour and rest, rough and calm, Yin and Yang coexist in the rhythm of the sea.


”太陽が昇る少し前。
ボートランプに車を停め、窓の外をじっと見つめる。
暗闇のなか、漁師の目だけが海の輪郭を掴んでいる。
ひとつ頷くと、彼は車を返し倉庫へ向かう。

写真家・橋本紘弥が南オーストラリアを放浪中に出会った
牡蠣漁の営みと港町 Smoky Bay での半年間。
海と人、労働と休息、陰と陽が
同じ呼吸の中で揺れている。
